Home Athletics Fall Sports

The start of the school year means the start of fall sports for many high school students across the District. Fall sports run from September to January each year and feature a variety of sports such as volleyball, football,  cheerleading, swimming, cross-country and golf. Each sport features its own unique rules, regulations, and schedules.

Boys' Soccer - One of the most popular sports in the world kicks off every fall in hundreds of schools across the District. Two teams of 11 CPS students strap on their cleats, grab a spherical ball, and begin head-to head competition aiming for one goal. The Boys Varsity Soccer season kicks off at CPS each year in early August.

Girls' Volleyball -

Football -  When fall comes around there’s at least one sport the City of Chicago is always ready for: football.  CPS schools hit the gridiron every fall ready to take on opponents both new and old across the entire District. Our football program is divided into 11 conferences: Six teams in each of the four Illini Conferences; eight teams in each of the four Chicago Conferences; eight teams in two Inter-City Conferences; and four teams in Inter-City 3 Conference.

Boys' Softball -

Cheerleading - We are John F. Kennedy High School Cheer. We are loud and we are proud! We cheer at football home and away games, basketball home games for the boys’ and girls’ teams, and wresting matches. We also walk in the annual community parade, perform at our pep rally, partner with community elementary schools teaching, learning, and performing cheerleading skills and choreography. We are known for our spirit around school, routines that incorporate stunts, and precision dance moves. Check us out!

Camp

At summer cheer camp, we learn cheers, dances, and stunts, all while playing games and bonding with our team. Camp usually lasts three days, so you can expect to be exhausted (in a good way) by the time you head home.

Practices

In most cases, cheerleading practices will be held after school anywhere from two to three times a week. They usually last a couple of hours and can consist of stunt practice, cheer practice, or half time show practice, depending on the team schedule.

Boys' and Girls' Cross Country - Students participate in this endurance sport in either rain or shine through green grass or muddy water. The program teaches students how to stay focused, persevere and deal with all of types of challenges. It features some of the most intelligent and focused young student athletes within the District. Learn more about our Cross Country program.

Girls' Swimming -

Boys' & Girls' Golf - CPS students swing into action each fall during the Boys and Girls Varsity Golf season. Students hit the greens at courses throughout the District competing against some of the best young golfers in the state.  Schools that have golf programs are in four conferences based on location and strength of program. Conferences are divided into Green North, Green South, Blue North, and Blue South. Learn more about our Varsity Boys and Girls Golf program.
